Huddersfield Set For Big Changes In 2022

Mon 06 Dec 2021

The start of a New Year is always a good time to make changes, and it looks as though the heart of Huddersfield will see some changes in early 2022.

This is because construction work at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre is set to begin. The project is a £7m one, with a cinema and leisure complex being added to the town centre, which is great news for everyone.

At ADM Residential, we believe that the property market is impacted by many things, and local facilities impact buyer demand. When there are more things to do in a local area, people will feel more at home, and it becomes easier for people to feel settled.

A busier town centre is good news for everyone

Knowing that there is considerable work being undertaken in the town centre helps to make Huddersfield town centre more appealing. The new complex, replacing a House of Fraser store, will have a bowling alley, restaurants, bars and there will also be a six-screen cinema.

It is not as if having a cinema and bowling alley in town will draw people to Huddersfield, but for those prospective buyers who are swithering about moving to a new area, this might be the sort of addition that tips the balance in Huddersfield’s area.

Anything which indicates there is investment and improvement in a local area has to be seen as a positive thing. Town centres that have been left untouched look depressing, and this feeds into the overall thoughts people have on an area.

With this sizable investment in place, it is easier to feel greater confidence about Huddersfield. And of course, it is great to know that if you want to go to the cinema or have a social night out, you have more options! We care about the local property market, but we also like to think about the fun side of life in Huddersfield.

We also shouldn’t overlook the fact that these developments create jobs, and that is always positive news for a local community.

What are people saying about the new development work in Huddersfield town centre?

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman said: “How many years have we been waiting for this?! It has been seriously needed and I congratulate everyone at Kirklees Council and elsewhere who has made this happen. I am really delighted. Hallelujah!”

JPG Group Director David Allwood Spoke to Yorkshire Live, saying; “We are pleased to secure this project on the back of our existing credentials in cinema feasibility. This type of installation requires a very bespoke assessment due to the acoustic and vibration isolation requirements and this is intrinsically linked to the overall design, materials specification and construction as well as the internal interface.”

Peter Everest of WD (Kingsgate) Limited also spoke to the Yorkshire Live website, saying; “I am looking forward to working with JPG and the team led by Covell Matthews Architects to deliver a truly transformative development for the people of Huddersfield and the whole of Kirklees."
