Landlords – Follow These End Of Tenancy Cleaning Tips

Tue 13 Aug 2019

The end of a tenancy is a challenging time for landlords. There is paperwork and tasks to conclude to coincide with the current tenant leaving, and you need to find a new tenant for your home. You also need to ensure your rental accommodation is clean and in good condition before letting to a new tenant.

Landlords can make the end of tenancy cleaning process more comfortable if they develop a good relationship with their current tenant. The more the current tenant does to keep the property clean throughout the tenancy, the easier the end of the tenancy cleaning process is. Tenants are motivated to claim their deposit back, so you’ll find many are willing to assist in the cleaning process.

Follow these steps to clean the kitchen at the end of tenancy

The kitchen cleaning process begins with removing everything from shelves and cupboards. Make sure all stains and crumbs are removed and then wipe down the area with a damp cloth. Be sure to clean thoroughly behind all appliances.

A simple tip, which is often overlooked, is the importance of cleaning the dishwasher and washing machine. Cleaning these appliances removes grime, instantly making these devices cleaner, and more effective to use.

The refrigerator should be stripped and the cleaned thoroughly. You can use soapy water for the shelves, racks and fridge trays, but make sure you dry them when placing them back into the refrigerator. When the tenant moves out, the fridge should be turned off at the wall, and the doors should be left open. This step prevents mould.

One of the biggest tasks in cleaning the kitchen is the oven. The oven can get dirty very quickly, but it is also one of the first items inspected by landlords. Hiring a professional can save you time, but there are many oven cleaning products worth considering to help you put the sparkle back into your kitchen.

Revitalise the living room

In the living room, the most critical steps are dusting and ensuring the carpet is clean. Focus on stubborn stains, and if you need additional help in returning your carpet to former glory, do so. The carpet is one of the most critical features in the home, so it is worth spending time and money to ensure it looks great.

The bathroom must be gleaming

You need the bathroom to sparkle at the end of the tenancy. Wipe every surface down and make sure that there are no stains or marks. Take the time to check the plug holes and drains to ensure water can flow freely.

Review the condition of metal surfaces to ensure they are free of limescale and mould. If you need to remove mould or limescale, white vinegar and lemon juice are of benefit.

Following these tips will make a big difference in cleaning the rental property at the end of the tenancy.
